Choosing the right binoculars can seem daunting. Here at BestbinocularsUK.net we have taken the problems of decision making for you, by supplying only the best and most versatile binoculars for any given category. All you need to do is choose your price range.

However, you do get different things for your money, and this guide is aimed at helping you decide how much you need to spend for your particular use.

How Much Magnification Do I Need?

Remember - with magnification bigger isn’t always better. If you’ve ever used a pair of binoculars with a really large magnification (or on a really high zoom), you’ll find that it is almost impossible to focus on an object. A large zoom or magnification has the affect of making any tiny handshake amplify, so that it is hard to keep your sight trained on an object. In general, you won’t need a magnification higher than 10x, and if you do (for instance, for astronomy), you should purchase a tripod to go with your binoculars to use them to best effect.

Remember also, larger magnification might mean more weight, where a light pair is more important when you will be holding your binoculars for long periods.

A pair of 10×50 binoculars will make an object look 10 times closer (the first number), and the second number refers to the size of the back lens (50mm or about 2 inches). A larger lens makes the image look brighter (if that is important to you). In general, most people will only need to consider the first number.

What Special Characteristics Do I need for Using Binoculars For Birdwatching?

If you are using binoculars outdoors in wet conditions, waterproof binoculars may be important. These have been filled with a gas and tightly sealed to keep your lenses in perfect conditions.

And For Travelling?

A compact, light pair of binoculars is important for travelers

Do I wear My Binoculars Whilst Wearing My Glasses?
